The reason for sharing all these beauty tips isn’t telling you to focus solely on appearance! It’s totally not that. In fact, the reason being for us to keep bettering ourselves (including appearance) is a reflection of self-love. We eat well, dress well, behave well not for others but ourselves. When it comes to appearance and body, we keep improving ourselves because this makes us feel good.

Yup, you heard it. All these beauty tips aren’t for us to please the boys or others ( Hell NO! ), but for pleasing OURSELVES.

Alright, message sent. No more girls’ talk and let’s dive into the 20 tips for how to become prettier naturally, enjoy! I will first start with some basic beauty tips that I think every girl should really try to achieve it, and then, I will share some creative tips that I’ve found throughout the years?

How to become prettier naturally? Here are the 20 ways!

1. Don’t be night owls and sleep 7-8 hours everyday

Sleeping is huge for girls (in fact everyone in this world). It plays a vital role because sleeping helps not just your mind to wind down but repairs and recover your body, which directly affects your appearance.

Sleeping is a real deal and it can improves our outer beauty in many different areas.

  1. Better skin condition – Sleep can boost your skins’ recovery rate from sun’s damage by 30%, slower the skin aging process and alleviate the collagen losing rate, which directly reduces the wrinkles on your face
  2. Brighter eyes – Lack of sleep can lead to a serious dark circle and also puffy eyes
  3. Stronger immune system – Sleep deprivation can worsen our immune system and it’s easier to trigger skin problems like eczema

Sleeping is basically the foundation of all other beauty tips! I know how difficult it is to maintain a fixed sleeping schedule (The struggle is real..) but trust me, it worth.

2. Drink 8 cups of water everyday

Drinking water is another essentials when it comes to improving your skin and body.

  1. Younger skin: By drinking enough water, this ensures that nutrients are delivered to cells keeping them hydrated and plump. With plump cells, this directly makes your skin looks younger and firmer.
  2. Weight loss: If you drink water before every meal, this helps us suppress the appetite and thus you will eat lesser. The scientific reason for this is our body always mistake thirsty as hungry and so we end up binge-eating. Another point is drinking enough water can make sure your metabolism maintains in a healthy rate, which helps to burn calories.

3. No Smoking

Smoking is not just bad for health, but also the looks!

  • Goodbye to perfect white teeth: Nicotine in cigarettes can stain teeth. Worse case, this puts you at greater risk for all kinds of dental problems, including tooth loss (due to gum disease) and oral cancer.

  • Goodbye to your glowing skin: The chemicals in smoking can be fatal to the skin and result in premature aging and wrinkles.
    • Carbon monoxide: Displaces the oxygen in your skin
    • Nicotine: Reduces your blood flow (That’s why the skin looks dry in most cases)

4. Drinking less alcohol (In my case, no alcohol)

1.Beer Belly – Girls can have beer belly too! With excessive drinking, there’s bloating.

2. Bad skin – Excessive drinking forces your kidneys to remove excess water from your body twice as fast, and that including your skin.

3. Gain weight – the calories of alcohol is insanely high!

Well, we can still have a Happy Friday without alcohol (or at least less in your case). There are many other better ways to relieve stress other than drinking on Friday night and have a hangover next morning (That feeling sucks…)

5. Avoid eating food with too much sauce

Salad can be really healthy…until they are mixed with unhealthy salad dressing with high calories! This is a trap when it comes to food calories.

Take Ketchup as an example.

Here’s the Nutrition fact of ketchup. You may think, well, 15 kcal isn’t a big deal. My dear, the serving size is just 1 tbsp! We always underestimate how many tbsp of sauce we consume daily, you will shock about the fact! These numbers do add up and really gain us some weight. Despite the sneaky calories, most of the sauce isn’t healthy these days. From the nutrient facts, you can tell sugars is one of the major sources of the ketchup. Most of the sauce is a different mixture of sugars, salts and other seasonings. This is just not good for our body to a large extent.

I know it’s hard to totally get rid of all the sauces (I cant too… to be honest), but at least I’m aware of them and control the proportion I consume.

August update: I am so glad that I finally find the perfect no sugar & gluten free sauce! ( Such a time wasting process to find the good one…) And the most amazing part is it is avocado!

6. Eat less dessert and consume sugar in a very low level

Sugar is so toxic and it is scientifically proved that sugar makes us aged faster. Girls love dessert because it’s really pleasant to look at, but again, we should definitely control the sugar intake. Why? Because sugar makes us tired, fat and ugly. I am not trying to scare you because it’s a fact. It may not be obvious in your 20s or 30s but in long term, this is one of the reasons why some women in their 40s still looks energetic and with glowing skin while some look tired all the time with dry skin.

  • Sugar accelerated aging: We all know collagen is crucial when it comes to plump and firm skin. However, sugar breaks down collagen and makes the cells lose their strength and flexibility, leading to wrinkly, saggy skin. and makes our skin looks wrinkly and saggy. This is definitely the last thing we want.

  • Sugar makes you tired: Some people may still think it’s useful to have few chocolates when you are sleepy. While it may work in a short period of time, I’m pretty sure you will experience sugar crush for a long time afterward and make you even sleepier. The reason being is that our body always strives for balancing the blood sugar level, this quick boost of blood sugar (which makes you feel energized ) will at last trigger a surge of insulin to be produced and bring the blood sugar level into normal. This is the time when sugar crush arrives and you will feel tired for a longer time.

  • Sugar makes you eat more: Sugar crush not only makes you tired but actually eat more. Do you have the experience that you are not hungry at all and once you started eating that one little slice of cake your friend invited you to try, you suddenly got an urge to eat more and end up finishing the whole cake? (I hope I am not the only one here…) This is probably triggered by the artificial sugar consumption and that’s why many people have sugar addiction these days. This is a real thing in society.


When I was in high school, I am overweight and I try to eat less, cut all the carbs and only drink juice during dinner, which of course are all silly ideas. When I feel hopeless after seeing my weight bounced back, again and again, I decide to have a final try. I still eat desserts for some days, but I only drink water and completely cut all the sugar drinks (including the juice that seems healthy but in fact, it’s totally not). I lose 10 pounds within a month and guess what, my weight never bounce back. This is the awakening time for me to know how toxic artificial sugar doing to our body. For now, I am using this magic sugar when cooking and this is a way healthier choice!

7. Maintain Good Posture

Posture is very important yet many people don’t pay much attention to that.

Despite all the detrimental health issues, bad posture is just not pretty to look at, and in the long term, it can affect your body shape, your confidence level, and attractiveness overall.

Below are some of the most common bad postures:

  1. Hunched back & Shoulders
  2. Head forward & heavy
  3. Neck forward & Strained
  4. Chest flattened
  5. Low back pushed forward & Stressed
  6. Buttocks flattened
  7. Resting on one leg when standing ( I always do that )

I know many people got this one in their office or home already but in case you don’t have any seat cushion, consider one! Don’t underestimate this plastic little thing, it can really address your posture and makes you less tiring when you are working or driving. The reason for choosing this specific brand is that this seat cushion is so thin that it did not add any noticeable seat height change to my eye level to my desktop.

Among all the tips, posture is really the one that can instantly level up your vibes and this is so worth investing!

8. Drink Green Tea

Green tea is a beauty drink for me, despite all the possible health benefits, it can also help weight loss.

  1. Boosting the metabolism rate: Green tea contains bioactive substances like caffeine and EGCG, which can have powerful effects on metabolism. The higher the metabolism rate, it helps speed up our fat burning process. It always a good idea to have a cup of green tea after lunch.

If you want to drink something light yet powerful enough to energise you, you may want to consider try the green tea!

9. Always do eye exercise

The eye is the window of the soul and we always willing to buy expensive eye cream for keeping our eyes away from wrinkles. While I help eye cream really work for eye care, I do think eye exercise is equally important because it helps to tone our weak eye muscles and improving eye circulations.

It Boosts your confidence level immediately!

It’s sad that eye yoga/ eye exercise is being undervalued just because they don’t have many promotions (Most of them are free youtube videos ). This exercise takes only 5 minutes every day but the long term benefit is real. I really think it’s a great investment for all of us, plus, it’s free!

10. Apply lip balm before lipstick

This is a beauty hack that every girl should know because this just make our life easier in two ways.

1. Always apply lip balm before lipstick to avoid a cakey look:

When it comes to matte lipstick, we love it but admittedly matte lipstick brings some rough patches on our lips and that’s just not pleasant to look at. All we need to do is add a thin layer of lip balm, your lipstick will glide on smoothly because you already got a smooth surface to apply on.

2. Keep our lips hydrated:

We always apply toner and face cream before our makeup, but we always forget about our vulnerable skin – lips! Before applying any lipstick, we should at least apply lip balm to protect our lips from the pigmentation and dryness.

11. Adopt Nasal Breathing instead of Mouth Breathing (Especially for kids)

I didn’t realize it’s a problem until I read some research and articles about this topic. I am a mouth breather for a very long time but I think it’s time for me to change. Despite all the health issues ( please find from the source if you are interested), surprisingly this can affect our appearance and especially for kids!

1. Affect facial growth: With long time mouth abnormal muscular forces on the jaws during sleeping, kids who are mouth breathers are at risk of developing an anterior open bite, a longer face.

I know some of my readers are moms, it’s time to check your kids whether they have this problem or not. Feel free to do your own research.

12. Apply eyelashes too when it comes to eye cream

As a disclaimer, this tip is not back up by any scientific proof yet. While many of the articles teaching people how to apply eye cream correctly for not touching the eyelashes (For not wasting any of the creams), I will apply the eye cream to eyelashes too. I do think my eyelashes are stronger & healthier.

13. Always combing and messaging your scalp (before you regret it)

Hair has been one of my biggest insecurities of all. My hair is so thin somehow and it seems that my hair loss at an abnormally fast rate. I don’t really aware of this problem until this year. When I looked at the mirror, my heart ached as I can’t imagine how bad the situation can be if I turn a blind eye to my hair. I tried many different methods within these few months, two of the best method are

A. Changing my cotton pillow into silk pillow

I feel like no so many people know about this but yes, silk pillow is way better if you want a smoother face and hair! instead of using the cotton fabric, we should use the lighter fabric like silk or bamboo as it reduces the traction of your hair. That can reduce the annoying split ends! When I first know that I was totally shocked, I don’t really know the material of the pillowcase matters to our skin and hair that much.

But finding the right silk pillow is not that easy and I end up using this Pure Mulberry Silk Pillowcase and finally see the real changes. This pillowcase is the absolute best if you have any kind of hair shedding or hair loss like me. It’s a totally new concept to me that the right pillow can help reducing hair damage from sleeping. To be honest, I am kind of doubtful about this claim before, but after trying this one, it just got me. Its silky surface really helps protect against dry hair because it doesn’t absorb the natural oils in your hair the way cotton does.

B. Always messaging the scalp

This is another life-changing tip. I seldom scalped my hair before because I thought this will worsen my hair loss problem. Well, actually it won’t! Below is the main benefit of hair message.

  1. Scalp massages promote hair growth: With moderate massage, it circulates to the hair follicles and triggers the blood flow to the hair cells. That being said, it means there are healthier hair growing out of your scalp.
  2. Lessen undesirable scalp conditions: With a clear scalp as a good foundation of hair, the other scalp problems like dandruff, seborrheic dermatitis, and psoriasis will also be addressed.

Everyone knows this product from those ASMR video but this is actually useful! Not only is this a hair care product but also perfect for self-care routine! I always use it when I feel exhausted after a long working day and you will be surprised the deep relaxation and pleasure this little weird thing can give you. Of course, this can ensure your scalp is in a healthy state for long and thick hair in the long term.

This is probably why my hair gets thicker than before, though the difference is not significant and others may not aware of it, I do feel so satisfied with my little change! I will do my scalp massage with the virgin coconut oil and that’s a wondering self-care time for me. Get one! You won’t regret that!

14. Always dry brushing in the morning for softer and glowing skin

Dry brushing is my proudest discovery in 2020 and here are some solid reasons.

1. Reduce Cellulite: Daily dry brushing makes our skin firmer and smoother and the cellulite will be way less obvious to get noticed. To be honest, this is why I start dry brushing in 2020 because cellulite is really my pain point that I want to tackle for long!

2. Softer and glowing skin: Dry brushing is all about removing dead skin, despite the cleaner skin, it also makes our skincare products more absorbable.

3. Refreshing Morning: By daily dry brushing, it also strengthens the skin’s ability to get rid of the toxins through the pores, and from my personal experience, I always feel so refreshed when I do my dry brushing in the morning. Many people say dry brushing is a self-care activity and I can’t be more agreeable to that!

At first, I only bought the body dry brush. For me, honestly, I can’t see any significant result on the cellulite after 1 month but I keep dry brushing every day before the shower. Roughly about 2.5 months I guess, I can see the cellulite on the back of the thigh is reduced! (I still have cellulite but not that obvious anymore). I am really glad I have insisted and now I also bought the face brush.

Not only dry brushing reduces the cellulite but it makes my legs more toned and soft too. I mean, there’s no reason you don’t try dry brushing out. I really hope dry brushing can get more popular later (just like meditation nowadays) because they are so underrated. If you are trying this already, you already successfully set you apart from many others!

For the starters, I don’t recommend you buy the expensive one, this body dry brush should be more than enough for you to see results. This is also the dry brush I first tried and I am really happy with the after effect. I am now switching to the ionic dry brush but again, I don’t recommend this for the beginner, especially if your skin is sensitive!

15. Use coconut oil for skin care

They do wonders to your skin! I have used coconut oil as body cream and hair masks for an year and I just love it.

  1. Help treat acne: Coconut oil contains anti-inflammatory and antibacterial properties like medium-chain fatty acids can help treat acne by preventing the growth of acne-causing bacteria
  2. Natural Moisturizer: Coconut oil can be an effective moisturizer for all the skin types, and especially for girls with dry skin and eczema.
  3. Strong and glowing hair: Many people DIY their own coconut hair mask as it scientifically proved that virgin coconut oil can easily penetrate the strands and can even prevent protein loss.


Please remember to use the virgin 100% Pure coconut oil instead of the refined coconut oil, after all, we don’t want those natural nutrients being processed away. The more natural the coconut oil, the greater the effect on our skin. For me, I am using this unrefined coconut oil and this is so affordable!

16. Don’t always touch your face

It seems simple but for some of the people (like me), we just can’t stop touching our face… the struggle is real, I know some of you will understand that.

But we really have to stop that.


Because you can’t imagine how dirty your hands can be.

According to  American Academy of Dermatology (AAD), we are advised that we shouldn’t touch our skin, especially for the people with oily skin. Your hands can spread dirt, dust, oil, and most importantly, bacteria to your face, which can lead to clogged pores, pimples and breakouts.

17. Smile more!

While it’s cliche to say that, a smile is the best makeup any girl can wear. Actually, this fact is backed up by science for long.

1.A smile gives people a better first impression

It’s interesting to know that if you put a profile picture with your smile on the social media platforms, people will perceive you as a person with great social life and thus more willing to get in touch with you. Just a small difference can make your life easier.

2. A smile can compensate for relative unattractiveness of your face

According to research conducted by the psychologists at Swansea University, they found out there’s a positive relationship between looking great and smile. They found people with genuine smiles, rather than simply looking cheerful or having a blank expression, were even more likely to be seen as healthy and glowing – even they may not be healthier than the people with rest bixxh face.

18. Take warm shower instead of hot shower

While it is really comfy and relaxing to take a hot shower after a hectic day, it’s time for you to go for warm shower for your skin.

  1. Worsen your skin health: Hot water is powerful enough to wash away the sebum of the skin’s outer layer. Hot shower dehydrate the skin greatly because it strips away the healthy fats and oils necessary for skin health

Are you one of the girls that you have perfect skin for face but dry skin for the body? If yes, it’s probably because of the hot shower. Try to lower the temperature, shorten the shower time and apply moisturizer afterwards (For me, I am using virgin coconut oil), see if there’s a difference in one months time!

19. Do BOTH cardio and core workout to maximize fat burning

Some girls hate cardio while some hate weight lifting. For some of us, we even hate both LOL. However, if you want to maximize your fat-burning benefit, you should do both of them! Here’s why.

  • Weight training helps strengthen your muscle: With extra muscle, it helps to burn more energy even when you are at rest or sleeping. What’s more, weight training helps sculpt our body and make our body line looks firmer, this is the effect that cardio workout can’t offer.

  • Cardio Regular helps speed up your metabolism and burn calories and fat: Doing cardio workout triggers all kinds of responses in the body, including your metabolism and thus burning fat for your body. The great thing about cardio is you can enjoy the afterburn like weight training, but even more intense! Actually most of the cardio we engage in our daily life like Tabata training or treadmill already brings us the afterburn effect. The more afterburn you can generate, the more calories you burn and the more weight you lose. But of course, if you just do a moderate cardio exercise for 5 minutes, it’s not gonna work like magic and burn all your fat away. It’s all about getting your heartbeat up with the workout duration and intensity.

It is why some girls are hardworking enough to do the abs training every single day but still can’t see their abs popping. It’s a high chance that the fat rate of the body is high. The abs are there but covered by the belly fat on top of them. That’s why in this case, we should do more cardio to lower our fat rate first before go all-in into weight and core training.

We should always be pairing cardio and weight training together for the best body shape! That’s why HIIT (High-intensity interval training) is so effective because it is a wonderful mixture of intense cardio and core workout.

20. Beauty affirmations will make you beautiful, no matter how you are now

I put this the last one because this is not a tip but a journey.

Let’s be honest. Self love is hard.

As a girl, we always have our own insecurities and our own little drama going on our brains. There are so many girls that don’t feel comfortable in their own skin, despite the fact that they are totally perfect in my eyes. Please remember, we, as human beings, are all perfect imperfection. Beauty is how you feel inside, and it reflects in your eyes. It is not something physical at the end of the day.

Saying affirmation seems a woo-woo thing when I first know about this concept. But in fact, it works. These affirmations help me establish the right mindset when it comes to beauty and I always give credit to myself for constantly finding ways to bettering my appearance and body throughout all these years. When you feel pretty, people will be attracted by your vibes too.

Here are some my favorite affirmation of all time.

1. I am comfortable in my own skin and I exude confidence.

2. I am content with how I look now, and I mean it

3. Look around you. Appreciate what you have. Nothing will be the same in a year.

4. I am beautiful and every girl is beautiful in their own ways

5. I let go of all reasons and excuses for not looking and feeling beautiful.
