These days, our Internet is flooded with some new beauty hacks every single day and no matter how weird it is, I am always open to trying. Not going to lie, some of the beauty “hacks” are stupid and for some even messing up our skin! Yes, I am the girl who has tried to use glue to remove acne. So here, after trying out a bunch of “hacks”, here are the beauty hacks/ little tips that are natural, time-saving that make us look put together effortlessly! These are all the things I’ve tried and still incorporate in my daily life till now, so no worries they are all legit!

1. Use red lipstick to cover under eye circles
I have been skeptical about this hack for a long time but all I can say is, this works amazing to me.
I have a very dark eye circles and just by applying concealer and foundation, it’s still not effective enough for me to get rid of the under eye circles. So when I come across this hack, I have to try this out and now applying red lipstick under eye area is my make up routine everyday!
The tip here is to use a very small amount of red. Instead of applying the lipstick under your eyes, I am dabbing the red gently on the area and apply the concealer and foundation I always use and it’s done! So far I don’t see any skin problem by using this hack so I really highly recommend it!
In case you girls want a video, I’be found one on Youtube. In my personal opinion, she is applying a bit too much… but her steps are all correct!
2. Treat dry cuticles with lip balm
Lip balm is my must-have item in bag, especially in winter!
Instead of buying cuticles oil for treating the cuticles, a handy lip balm is moisturising enough to soften the dry rough cuticles already!
In fact, lip balm is way more functional then you think, here are some other ways to multitask your lip balm.
- Tame the frizzy hairs
- Protect your pimples and acne. The balm can act as a layer that will keep your concealer in place and protect your acne from those makeup chemicals.
- Intensify eyeshadow color. This really works to create a deeper pigment and make me have a chance to use back many eyeshadows palette!
- Use as a highlighter ( only in winter otherwise it’s too oily)
- Help earrings slide in faster. This is the best lubricant ever.
So yes, lip balm is really so functional! *Respect*
3. Throw the make up sample in your purse
When it comes to the makeup samples we receive every-time after the purchase, we just always forget to use them and when you realized their existence, most of them are already expired. This is really such a waste and my tip is to make it a habit to throw some of the makeup samples in your bags instead of keeping them in a drawer at home.
Don’t underestimate them because they can be insanely useful when you need to touch up your make up but forget to bring your foundation out! I remember once I accidentally wipe my foundation and that makes my skin tone looks awkward, I can’t be more glad when I found the sample foundation in my bag! Life saver!
4. Combine mascara and powder for fuller lashes
If you don’t wear fake eyelashes, probably you are using mascara in your daily life, but have you to this little magic thing in it’s full potential? With combing mascara and makeup powder, your eyelashes can have a huge difference.
STEP 1: Apply first coat of mascara
After washing your face and applying the base, we can curl our eyelashes like we normally do. I always heat my eyelash curler with my hairdryer for 2 -3 seconds before applying to my eyelashes because this can always avoid my eyelashes drop in the middle of the day. But if you want to apply this little hack, please remember DON’T DIRECTLY USE THE CURLER right after it’s heated, it can hurt your eyes and it’s pain! (I have some bad experience when I first trying this hack). You have to wait for at least 10 seconds and test the temperature of the curler with your finger. If it’s warm instead of hot, it’s good to go.
STEP 2: Pump up the volume.
It’s time to pump up the volume with power. You can use a small and fluffy clean brush to apply a thin layer of translucent powder to your eyelashes. Please remember to use the translucent one, otherwise, it will be so tiring for you to cover all the power in step 3. Beware of the amount of the power you use too, it will look so clumpy if you apply too much.
Step 3: Finish it off with another coat
Cover up that dustiness with another coat of black mascara and YOU ARE GO TO GO!
If you look at the mirror, you should now have thicker looking eyelashes!
4. Heat your eyelash curler with a hair dryer to heat it up, so that makes the lashes more longlasting
5. Replace artificial dry shampoo with unsweetened cacao powder
Dry shampoo is useful because it soaks up the grease in your hair and makes your hair smells good and stays refreshed! While it is convenient, many studies and researches show that dry shampoo is full of unwanted chemicals that are bad to our health and also the environment.
In fact, dry shampoo is so easy to DIY and for dark hair, using unsweetened cacao powder is perfect for the hair because it’s surprising nourishing. It is filled with vitamins and minerals that nourish the hair and scalp’s health. If you have lighter hair, you can try arrowroot as your dry shampoo!
8. Ice your face once per week to maintain a glowy skin
This is a new hack I know in 2020, I just somehow haven’t heard people talking about this hack for my past 24 years (can’t believe it…)
Applying ice is a creative way for facial therapy and I can see why this is getting popular these days.
According to Healthline, some potential benefits of applying ice on the face including:
- Eliminate puffiness, especially around the eyes
- reduce the overall oiliness of your face
- alleviate and calm acne
- soothe sunburn
- reduce swelling and inflammation, including rashes and insect bites
- reduce signs of aging, such as wrinkles (It’s huge)
- maintain a glowy face
Facial skin icing is a natural, non-chemically way to glow up your face without wearing make up.
If you wonder how to do the ice facial, here’s the Youtube video. The before and after video is always so convincing!
9. Replace your cotton pillow with silk pillow to reduce friction to your face and hair
Also, some may not know, instead of using the cotton fabric, we should use the lighter fabric like silk or bamboo as it reduces the traction of your hair. That can reduce the annoying split ends! When I first know that I was totally shocked, I don’t really know the material of the pillowcase matters to our skin and hair that much.
I’ve started using a silk pillow from this February. Within 3 months, I’ve changed 2 pillowcases already (Certainly not proud), so please please please study more before you buy the pillow! For my first purchase, I just randomly chose a silk pillow and didn’t look into details cause I thought every silk pillow can bring the same effect, but actually not! I bought this silk pillow at first simply it’s the cheapest find in Amazon. To be honest, it’s certainly not bad to use and it’s okay actually. But I was expecting a more obvious change in my hair or skin, so I did a research about the silk pillows again. And that’s what I found:
There’s a difference between Leafbay silk pillowcase and Ordinary silk pillowcase.
This made me buy another pillow and finally, this works!
This pillowcase is the absolute best if you have any kind of hair shedding or hair loss. It’s a totally new concept to me that the right pillow can help reducing hair damage from sleeping. To be honest, I am kind of doubtful about this saying before, but after I tried this one, it just got me. Its silky surface really helps protect against dry hair because it doesn’t absorb the natural oils in your hair the way cotton does.
I saw many articles recommending self-care gift guides to girlfriends but not many mentioned silk pillow! I mean, what a pity that the silk pillow is so undervalued! It’s one of my best discoveries in 2020.
To be honest, if you already have perfect hair, DON’T BUY SILK PILLOW. Yes, you hear me right because I just don’t think the silk pillow will be of immense help in your case. Some people shared to me that they use cotton pillows whole life and have NEVER had split ends. (Amazing…). But if you are the girls who bothered by the hair shedding like me, silk pillows are better for certain hair types, it’s no harm to try this pillow!

10. Always warm up your skincare products in hands before applying
If you go for a facial, you will find that the therapist always rub the cream or oil in their hands before applying on your face. This simple act actually makes the skin care products more absorbable and thus maximise the effect of the products. By gently rubbing the cream, this help breaking down the component inside the serum and make the products sink in more quickly and deeply to your skin.
So ladies, please incorporate this little tip before applying your night cream!
